Photographing Events at Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center: Notes from Byers Theatre

On October 25, 2026, we photographed Symphony of the Earth, the 24th International Festival of Language & Culture, at Byers Theatre inside Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. Young performers from more than 20 countries, a full LED wall and a packed house made it one of the most visually ambitious productions we have covered this year.

Sandy Springs PAC also hosts conferences, award nights and corporate meetings, so here is what we learned about photographing this room.

The light changes every few seconds

Productions at Byers Theatre often use moving-head fixtures, haze and saturated color washes. It looks spectacular in the room and it is hard on a camera. We shoot fast lenses at high ISO, expose for the performer’s face rather than the beams, and correct color scene by scene in editing, so stage color looks intentional instead of muddy.

The LED wall is part of the story

When a production invests in screen content, the best frames include it. We choose angles where the screen reads as scenery behind the performers, not as a blown-out rectangle. For a corporate general session, the same rule applies to your slides and branding.

Use the balcony

The balcony gives you the “whole room” frame: stage, screen and audience together. That is usually the first shot organizers and sponsors ask for. We pair it with tight frames from the front of the house to cover both scale and emotion.

Don’t forget the hosts and the program

Emcees, speakers and branded moments, like the program card or the title screen, are what end up in press releases and sponsor reports. We cover them as deliberately as the performances.

Planning an event at Sandy Springs PAC?

Whether it is a conference general session, a gala or a stage production, share your run of show with your photographer ahead of time. Knowing when the key moments happen is the difference between “we were there” and “we got the shot.”
